Inventing Pound Puppies
Magical Journey with Pound Puppies
Mike worked in a Ford Factory for 18 years. Even before Pound Puppies® he had, like most people, always been a dreamer, not a doer. However, he was on a journey to positive thinking, to believing in himself, and taking action on his dreams.
He signed up for Karate and earned his black belt. When he first got the idea for Pound Puppies®, he was in the right frame of mind and instead of “nay-saying” to himself, he decided to “Go For It!”
It was not easy with many obstacles and rejections along the way, but I would not give up!
“What happened next is NOT the stuff of dreams, it’s the incredible stuff that happens when dreams become reality!”
Soon after its introduction in 1984, Pound Puppies ® popularity exploded and became the #1 Toy Sold in the World in 1986 and 1987, doing a billion dollars in retail sales worldwide since its launch.
Pound Puppies® was special and unique in so many ways. It was the first of its kind, unisex toy that appealed equally to both boys and girls all over the world.
A hand written letter to Bill Hannah and Joe Barbera led to a cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera that aired on ABC for two years and eventually a full length animated movie, “Pound Puppies and the Legend of Big Paw.”
